Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

HCS SB 965 -- POISON CONTROL

SPONSOR: Bartle (Threlkeld)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Health Care Policy by a vote of 9 to 0. Voted "do pass - not
consent" by the Committee on Rules.

This substitute abolishes the Advisory Committee on Poison
Control and transfers their powers and certain duties to the
Department of Health and Senior Services. The department in
conjunction with local health agencies and health care providers
will determine the region to be served by the Missouri Regional
Poison Information Center.

The requirement that an annual report be submitted to the
presiding officers of the General Assembly and the department is
removed.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that while the advisory committee
served a vital function in the implementation of poison control
centers, the functions are now completed and handled through
other mechanisms.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Bartle; and Missouri
Hospital Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
